Please consider becoming a Team Manager - the number of kids we can have participate in this great program is 100% dependent on the number of adult volunteers. We have a supportive community of returning team managers who are there to provide help and advice. Plus, your child will receive first priority in being assigned to a team. If you have questions or want more information about becoming a team manager, please contact Colleen Bohlman.
All of our teams did extremely well in competition and I'm proud of the kids, team managers and parents who were there to support them. Each elementary and middle level challenge had between 65-100 teams competing over 4 days of the tournament so it was quite an undertaking for the appraisers as well as the teams!
10th - Hurricane Royals
11th - Neon Cheguins
(less than 2 points difference on their final scores!)
24th - Incredible Imaginative Indigo Iguanas
12th - Hot Pink Bacon Stuffed Donuts
(The Donuts missed the High IC spot by just 2 points and finished 3rd in the Instant Challenge!)
Our friends from Viral Brilliance finished 26th in Middle level technical. Colonial Trail finished 15th in Brand Aid and Echo Lake finished 27th in Technical. Virginia teams placed in several challenges and levels, so our state was well represented on the awards stage Saturday!
PTA President Sally Raderer and her son Max are having a great time at Global Finals! Max is part of an independent middle school team named Viral Brialliance! Audrey, a 4th grader in Mrs. Bogle’s class is also a team member! We have been having a great time supporting all of our current and former Cardinal friends here this week as well as teams from Echo Lake and Colonial Trail!
Three of our four teams had Instant Challenge competitions today. An Instant Challenge is when the teams receive a problem they've never seen and are given a short amount of time to develop a solution. They are scored on teamwork and how well they solve the problem. There is a big celebration called a "Ta Da" after the Global Finals "IC". Thursday night is famous for two large parties - the Duct Tape Costume Ball and the International Passport Party.
The Donuts and the Incredible Imaginative Indigo Iguanas were fortunate to be matched with International Buddy teams. They kids meet and exchange small gifts that represent their country or region and get to know one another througout the week. Both teams had the chance to meet their buddies today. I’m posting a picture of the Donuts and their buddies from Singapore and a photo of the Iguanas and their buddies from China! The Singapore Team is made up of five 13-14 year old boys and the kids all had a great time comparing school and fun activities. The Iguanas found their buddies quite by accident and stopped for a photo op! Today (Wednesday) our teams will attend Opening Ceremonies and the fun truly begins!
Sofi and Cindy have been selected as Student Reporters for DI Global Finals! This is a tremendous honor as only 4 students are selected each year! As reporters, they will be the student "face" of the tournament! We look forward to seeing them on DI TV
Each year Rising Stars teams (K-2) and Challenge teams (3-5) are formed in the fall. A volunteer team manager helps guide the team through the creative problem solving process. First, the teams choose a challenge, then they work together to build a solution that meets the requirements of the challenge and create a presentation for a panel of appraisers in front of a live audience.
